Titusville FL - An Amazing Place in Every Way

Titusville Florida Town

Titusville, the county seat of Brevard County, Florida, is home to 48,789 people, according to the 2020 census.

Along the Indian River, this city is the ideal place to see rockets launch and sea turtles nest.

Individuals can tour the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, the Canaveral National Seashore, and the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge while in the area.

The History of Titusville

Indigenous people have lived in
Titusville for centuries. Discovered in 1982, the Windover Archeological Site dates back to the early Archaic Period and has been designated as a National Historic Landmark because of its significance.

America purchased Florida from Spain in 1821, but people didn’t settle certain parts of the land immediately because the Seminole Wars were raging. Initially known as Sand Point, Titusville saw its first post office in 1859. However, the post office only operated for a few months

Henry T. Titus
moved to the area in 1867 and began laying out roads. He built a hotel and salon while donating land for churches and a courthouse.

In 1873, the city became known as Titusville. It was incorporated 14 years later. The railroad’s arrival brought more people to the city in 1885.

However, it wasn’t until the late 1950s that the area truly took off.

Cape Canaveral was growing and the Kennedy Space Center was later built on Merritt Island. Established in 1962, the Launch Operations Center was renamed the Kennedy Space Center the following year.

These facilities led to Titusville being known as Space City USA and Miracle City in the 1960s.

Today, the city has seen residents leaving, due it part to the cessation of the space shuttle program in 2012.

This museum and memorial is the first of its kind in the nation and remembers those who have given their lives while serving others in law enforcement.

People visit the sanctuary to observe the wildlife, capture the beauty of nature through photography, and hike.

Sand Point Park spans almost 30 acres and is home to the Astronaut Memorial Plaza, which honors those individuals who manned the Apollo, Challenger, and Columbia space missions.

In addition, it houses the Titusville Little League, allowing many families to spend their nights and weekends surrounded by gorgeous landscapes.

For those who need an indoor venue for an event, the Sandrift Community Center is the perfect location.

The Brevard County Parks and Recreation Department oversees this building, which features a large open space and a full kitchen.
